Anyone who's ever had any kind of public critique knows what it feels like to have your work analyzed and torn apart. Its not a great feeling, but I appreciate the critiques that hurt, more than the ones that leave me all fuzzy inside. Anyone can tell you that your work is great, but you'll learn more from the person that tells you it stinks. And you'll learn even more from the person who tells you why.
I had a pretty solid critique this morning. And a rough one on Monday, too.
Without even thinking about it, I've drawn my high school art teacher, Mr. Warner.

remember that one time when he threatened to hit me in the head with the claw-hammer that he was brandishing? i think he really would have done it...
ReplyDeleteThis is why I departed from "refined" art forms and pursued contemporary art. Not that a critic's perspectives aren't valid . . . they just get in the way of my vision and altruistic moral sense. Plus, I can pee in the curator's gallery . . . and laugh.
